How To Take Care Of Your Carpets

Knowing how to take proper care of your carpets will ensure they keep their fresh, fluffy appearance for as long as possible. What’s more, as your flooring can make a big impact on the appearance of your home, looking after it can help to create a clean and tidy aesthetic. So, if you’d like to find out our tips for keeping your carpet pristine, keep reading.

Take Your Shoes Off

Always make sure you take off your shoes before entering a room that is fitted with carpets. Even if they look clean, they are bound to have some traces of dirt which can discolour your flooring overtime. By removing your shoes at the door, you are protecting the longevity and appearance of your carpeting. If you prefer wearing shoes inside, consider treating yourself to a cosy pair of slippers.

Make The Most Of Mats

Placing mats in high-traffic areas, such as doorways, can massively help to protect your carpet. Not only will it help to reduce dirt-build up, but it will also help to prevent wear and tear. You can purchase mats or runners in the same shade as your carpet for a more neutral look, but don’t be afraid to try patterns or complementing colours.

Vacuum Carpets Weekly

Vacuuming regularly is a superb tip to care for your carpets. Ensure you are doing this at least once per week to remove any soil, pet hair and dust. In doing so, you are reducing the amount of debris in your carpets, which can cause discolouration and even staining if left to fester. However, for high traffic areas, consider vacuuming twice a week. This will significantly improve the longevity of your carpet.

Don’t Pull Out Snags

With carpeting, it’s completely normal to expect a few snags or loose pieces now again. What’s important is how you handle it. When this happens, we strongly advise against pulling or tugging on your carpet, as this can cause damage. In fact, you could even cause rips and tears, which may result in holes or bare patches. Instead, take a pair of sharp scissors and simply trim the excess fabric. It only takes seconds and doesn’t risk damaging your beautiful flooring.
